Optimizing Your Site for Search Engines Print

  • 0

Optimizing your site insures that search engines and directories most efficiently and accurately index it.

Here are some tips to help you optimize:

Include content that's descriptive
Make sure the content in your site includes keywords that are most relevant to the page's content. Use synonyms of keywords to insure the greatest number of hits.  For example, if your page is about cooking, you may opt to use terms such as culinary, kitchen, etc.  Use terms that individuals might use to search for pages such as yours.
Use Descriptive Web Page Titles
The title of your pages shows up in the (usually) blue bar at very top of the browser window.  Descriptive and relevant page titles can help improve search engine ranking. You might opt to use your company or organization's name in each of your page's titles, and it's also a good idea to ensure the text in your title is also mentioned somewhere in the page itself.

Use META Tags
Meta tags are descriptive elements used in  pages that  are picked up by web spiders.  For more information on their use, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_tags

(Did you know that Softaculous now has and SEO tool that can help you with your meta tags, search engine submission and more?)
